Tabu started as a free WhatsApp Web blur extension because we had a real problem in real public spaces. We were friends at university in Argentina, opening WhatsApp Web between classes, in libraries, and in crowded study areas, and our private chats were too visible.

A small project between friends

We coded the first version together because we needed it ourselves. The idea was simple: blur WhatsApp Web by default, reveal only the thing you are using, and make the experience feel clean enough that you would actually keep it enabled.

At first, it was not a product. It was a small tool passed between friends.

The university test

We started using it in public places around the faculty. People noticed immediately. The problem was obvious to anyone who had ever opened WhatsApp Web in a classroom, shared table, cafe, or study room.

Before publishing it broadly, we shared the code with students who could install it locally and modify it for their own setup. Word spread faster than expected, and more than 1000 students started using it through that early community loop.

Why we made it free

Now Tabu is available from the Chrome Web Store so anyone can install it without extra steps. It is FREE, simple, and accessible. No local setup. No copying code. No developer mode. Just install it and use WhatsApp Web with a privacy layer that looks good by default.

That is still the product philosophy: focused, free, and beautiful by default.
